Anyone have good luck driving ls1 coils in wasted spark?

Post by 1986mitz »

How's it going? I'm getting ready to control ignition. I been reading a lot, most of ls posts are old. Manual does not talk about running coil on plug coils in wasted spark mode. I have latest v3 3.83 version. I'm looking for reliability mainly. I was thinking of running EDIS 4 system. My project is a Mitsubishi 4 cylinder 2.6 with turbo . I'm currently running fuel only with 36-1 crank wheel and vr sensor. If anyone has experience running ls with micro , any info would be appreciated thanks.

The MicroSquirt will work just fine with the 36-1 wheel and will drive 2 pairs of LS1 coils.

If you are running a turbo, you may be interested in the 'Extra' firmware, which includes boost control among other options.

Right on thanks for the quick response. I ended up getting a EDIS 4 system over the weekend, i couldnt pass up the deal. So looks like I will be trying this first. Im just a bit unclear on matching timing. I disconnect the SAW input and run engine with a timing light on #1 plug wire. And should see 10 deg btc. But being wasted spark won't it be doubled? I have a regular timing light with no dial. Thanks for any info.

A dial-back light will get confused; a fancy digital unit will show correctly when you have the 'Wasted Spark / 2-stroke' function turned on. A plain light is too dumb to get confused, and will just flash once per rev, instead of every other rev.
