The MegaSquirt Project has experienced explosive growth other the years, with hundreds of new MS installations occurring every week - a phenomenal success! MegaSquirt has been successfully used in all aspects of Internal Combustion engine applications including R&D, Industry, Race, and Research. The MS project has transformed itself from a simple R&D project into a full-featured mature engine control system. To reflect this the support structure has also changed to meet the needs of MegaSquirt Users.
Moving forward, the R&D forums for MegaSquirt project are in a read-only mode - no new forum posts are accepted.
However the forums will remain available for view, they still contain a wealth of information on how MegaSquirt works, how it is installed and used. Feel free to search the forums for information, facts, and overview. While the R&D forum traffic has slowed in recent years, this is not at all a reflection of Megasquirt users, which continue to grow year after year. What has changed is that the method of MegaSquirt support today has rapidly moved to Facebook, this is where the vast majority of interaction is happening now. For those not on Facebook the msextra forums is another place for product support. Finally, for product selection assistance, all of the MegaSquirt vendors are there to help you select a system, along with all of the required pieces to make it complete.
Forum for discussing how to install MicroSquirt(TM), choose and troubleshoot sensors, wiring, and communications for MicroSquirt (TM) and MicroSquirt Module(TM).

I will try a coil driver with the version 2 unit to see if that will work. I will also wire in a light (or led) on one of the coils and one of the injectors to see if the lights are flashing when the problem occurs.
I reinstalled the failing version 1 microsquirt firing the coils directly. I built a box using an atmel cpu to send x'610006' to the microsquirt and log the response to a FTDI Vdrive usb flash disk. I reformatted the microsquirt responses to megatune datalog format. The datalog file is attached. The box doesn't get a response to every request sent but every response it does get looks valid. The log shows 3 resets, the last one just seconds before the unit failed completely. The reset is at time 312.208, about line 1663. The next 5 entries after the reset show TPS open and RPM increasing. Unfortunately, the next several seconds are lost. When logging resumes at time 318.368 (secl 7) the TPS is still open but RPM is decreasing. 4 entries later I close the throttle and coast until the engine stops. I turned off the logger box and the microsquirt, waited a few seconds, and restarted the engine without a problem.
I had also hooked 12v led's (with a resistor) across one of the coils and one of the injectors. These light when the microsquirt pulls the coil/injector to ground. The injector led blinks until 3 to 4000 rpm and then just glows. The coil led starts glowing about 2000 rpm. As I was coasting to a stop, both leds were glowing. I don't think the coil was being pulsed since there were no backfires or exhaust pops and no engine power.
Any idea whats happening????
PS. I am in the process of removing the VB921's and and installing the jumper and capacitor for logic level output but I don't know if that will fix this problem.
