New problem

Post by PrecisionDyno »

well as I was testing last night after I made my first post about being close to maybe trying it out on an actual running bike, something happend and im not sure what.

at somepoint the laptop lost contact with the MS and wouldn't connect.

but it appeared as though the MS would still work, because if I'd run the trigger wheel it would fire the injectors. (i still have no coils up at this point)

now here's the strange part:

I accidentally brushed a wire with 5v(from another source) against the ign input wire(the center white wire to be exact, not the outer shielding wire) and then the laptop connected up and started reading everything for a brief second.

I then held it 5v's against it and the laptop stayed connected and read all the right readings.

but now whenever It's not applied to it the laptop won't connect.

any ideas on this?

just when I was making progress too!......sigh....

Could be you had a spark do something that corrupted the firmware. I would try reloading the firmware, first. If it doesn't load, please post a screen shot of the error message you get.

i willl try that again, i thought i did it but maybe i wasn't doing it the right way.

what is the procedure for this?

at no time were the coils hooked up when this problem arose.

If you feed 5V in through VR1+, then you are feeding 5V to VCC inside Microsquirt (through R26, R27, and D5). If you had blown the internal microfuse (F1) then I could see this making things work. The weird thing is that you were saying that uS appears to be working, other than the data connection, even without the 5V connected to VR1+.

I think you'll need to get a multimeter and check inside uS to see where your VCC is cut. The schematics are here: http://www.microsquirt.info/us_hardware.htm; note that everything is conformal coated, so you'll need to scrape away a bit to check for continuity or voltage at particular points - really sharp probes are a plus.
