360-1 trigger on a single cylinder

Post by mill383 »

Can uS read a 360-1 wheel? Am having problems with this. It is a GM LT1 Opt-spark wheel. It has 360 shutter windows. I cut one slot out to make it 360-1.

Problem is, I get a config error (Number of teeth/cylinders conflict) when powering up uS.

Setup is:
>Engine Constants > # of Cylinders=1, Injectors=1, Even Fire
>Ignition Options > Toothed wheel, Skip Pulses = 1
>Trigger wheel settings > Teeth= 360, Missing Teeth= 1, Tooth #1 angle= 0, Wheel speed= Crank wheel

I am running MS/Extra 2.1.1 Pre code (because I want boost control) on a uS module.
Prior to cutting out the missing tooth, I had success making uS trigger using "basic trigger", thru the OPTOIN circuit, but that's only good for fuel only, I want ignition control also.

I know a 360 wheel sounds overkill, but I want to be able to kick-start this engine, and max RPM will only be 6000rpm.

As a side question, when it was triggering using "Basic Trigger", I couldn't find a place in the menus to divide the signal down. Is the code assuming one-pulse per cylinder as the only option?

Thanks,
Dave

That's much more than what can be read by the CPU. The usual maximum number of teeth is 60 used with 60-2. It would possible to use more but 360 is 6 times more. Anything more than 100 would be pushing the limits.

And basic trigger means a single pulse per cylinder. There is no other option (it wouldn't be basic otherwise).

You might want to see Patrick's "Writing wheel mods" thread concerning Nissan ignition systems; some of that may be relevant to the Optispark (which uses the trigger pattern off a Nissan V8).
