No contact PC - Microsquirt

Post by kib_norway »

Working on my HD sportster MicroSquirt project.

Got everything ready, and have hooked up US with power and gnds, and the jack/serial via a USB serial adapter to my computer.

Have checked that usb adapter and megatune is setup for same ports, baudrate etc, but can not connect to US. Have updated the usb adapter drivers to latest version (prolific). Have booted PC several times, have connected and re-onnected the USB adapter serveral times as well. No contact.

Portcheck.exe cannot make contact either.

I measure 5v at the bootloader pin from US, and at the sensor Vref. Have tried two different USB adapters. One of them I know works with other equipment on this laptop. Have fiddeled with the common.ini file (tried on/of, values 1, 4, 5, 10, 50)

It seems to me that there is something wrong somewhere, but I cannot find out where. Is there some way to see if US has connection to the serial plug? What signals should I have on which pins in there?

Appreciate all help - quite frustrating to get computer / connectivity problems when all I want to do is tune and ride :-)

I found the error!!!

Believe it or not, the serial cable that came with my microsquirt was broken!

So... expect the unexpected and trust noone... and ALLWAYS check EVERYTHING :-)

Luckily, I had a similar cable laying around - I think it was from the innovate wideband controller - checked all internal wires and it had the same connections.

My PC now communicates with the microsquirt! Problem solved.
