Getting best base VE map

Hi all
My car is running pretty well now, however because I use a wideband and have EGO active I wondered what the best approach is to fine tune the base VE map now as when I do a datalog then run it through MSLogViewer it doesn't change that much, however EGO is still making -15 to +15 adjustments when driving along, so the base VE map must still need fine tuning.
Am I best to disable EGO and then go for a drive while logging and *then* run through MSLogViewer analysis?
Will

Will, that's what I am doing to remove as many variables as possible. Keep in-mind that both NB and WB sensors swing around while driving and will attempt correction that is not necessary. You may have noticed cruising on a flat portion of expressway with the rpm's and throttle steady and they still bounce around! This is why long, creative drives are good for averaging the data for better analysis. Maybe Phil has some other pointers about his very cool VE Analyzer.

Is this the case even with EGO switched off?
I'm keen to get the best base VE map that I can so the EGO doesn't have too much work to do, as stepping down to -15 or up to +15% can take a few seconds and if the base VE map is off that much it can't be condusive to the smoothest running engine.

Definitely shut off ego control......
and run the ve analysis.
It took me 5 different logs to have it perfectly set me up.
Then you can turn the ego control and forget about it.

Great - thanks.
Out of interest how long (in time) were your log file sessions that you fed back into the VE Analyser and how did you structure your driving?
Was it certain revs held for a certain time at a certain throttle position/map etc? Or was it simply nice, varied driving?
Ooooo - did you disable AE too when doing your initial tuning?

You shouldn't need to disable AE. All AE records are filtered during log analysis. Actually, I wouldn't expect ego to negatively impact tuning either as it is factored into the calculation. I'll have to play around with that some more.
