4 earth

how do i fins the 12v

my mate has the same coilpack on his car but has different coloured wires to me he has this but were not sure what they do

1 yellow possible signal
2 red possible 12v
3 yellow possible signal
4 black earth with connector for bolting to head

so do i go with his wiring hes using emerald on his 20vt

Is the coil pack wired so all three coils at one end are tied together? Is that point hardwired to a earth ground mount point? If not just wire the common terminal to +12V, the other ends of the coils to your VB's.

The pic below is from a random 306 wiring diagram on the web and it may not be for your model year. It would indicate that pin 3 is the common +12v power, pin 1 to Coil1 for plugs 1/4 and pin 2 to Coil2 for plugs 2/3. This would also support the assumption that pin 4 comes from the common power feed to the external noise suppression capacitor. Verify your info.

A way to crosscheck would be to compare resistance readings between pins. Using the picture in this case:

3/4 almost zero resistance
3/1 low resist
3/2 low resist
1/2 higher resistance about double 3/1 or 3/2

Hope that helps,
David

ok the last post was about the resistance just done this test and found this

if i hold the com probe onto pin4 then test i get this

pin 1 to 4 =1.7
pin 2 to 4 =1.7
pin 3 to 4 =1.2

so if ive read this right pin 3 is 12v and 1&2 are signal ?

or this

or this testing all the pins together

pin 2&3 =1.8
pin 3&4 =1.2
pin 1&2 = 2.3
