LSx Engine with MS2

Post by NemeSS »

I need help and input from one and all in the building of my MS system
i am a generally noob to tuning but not to the sensors and their function.
i understand somewhat how the system works, but the real issue i have is the ignition department
this is my buildup:
414 ci LSx 250's duration cam with over .650 lift
12.75 SCR 9:1 DCR
hi flow heads (365 cfm) hi flow sheetmetal intake
i built the engine and am working on the manifold now.
i am an auto machinist and engine builder, fabricator
the damper i am using has a provision for a crank trigger and
i will be mounting a 36-1 wheel for use with VR sensor
so i dont really need to use the COP of the LS1 engine
i have read on here and seen others use ford ignition components
like the mod motor coils from mustangs.
i dont care of using any stock sensors since it seems easier to use a 36-1 wheel for ignition.
i will use all the other needed GM sensors needed to run the MS system
however.
please help me out and feel free to offer any services or advice that any one sees are helpful to me.
i greatly appreciate it
thanx

I don't believe that MSII can do COP at the moment. Doing EDIS however is quite easy. Check out this link for the EDIS description:

And then pick the EDIS link.

I bought my EDIS parts from here: http://home.earthlink.net/~beanbooger/b ... gineering/

If it was me though, I'd keep the existing COP system for now and just use MS to control the fuel. Once MS is capable of handling COP, then you use it to control spark. Plus, it can be difficult to troubleshoot both spark and fuel control if you try to do both from scratch.

The way I see it is if you use Ford EDIS8 and individual coils insted of the ford coil pack you can have COP. Each coil would have a common wire plus a one the the 4 trigger wires going to 1 coil on each of the 2 banks.

You will need an inverter between the EDIS module and the coils because EDIS provides a ground when it wants to charge the coil. LS1 coilpacks to my knowledge require a 5v signal that goes to zero to fire.

From what I hear you say, you don't want COP, so heck there are plenty of wasted spark solutions. 4 of coils from a 3.3 liter 91 olds work fine, actually they seem to be replacements for my previous Electromotive solution.... Besides I still haven't figured out why COP is worth any effort over wasted spark. Wasted spark still provides 5 ms coil charge/discharge time at 10,000 RPM on a V8, cyl to cyl fuel tuning is probably much more important at that level...
