IAC1 and cooling fan control

Post by easyBob »

Trying to set up the spare ports has been the biggest problem with MSIIv3 (code 2.35 .s19 file) I've had so far. The writeup on the spare port config. isn't that great either.

Here we go...I'm controlling my fan through IAC1A/B (which I found out to be controlled through PT7 and not PT6 :? )

Right now, I'm just using IAC1A to control the ground side of the relay coil. It kinda 'works'. I can set it up to turn the fan on and off depending on coolent temp, and that's the part that works. The problem comes when I turn the car off. If the fan is ON when I turn off the car, the fan also turns OFF. But if the fan is NOT ON and I turn off the car, the fan then comes ON!

The one thing I think it might be, because the writeup doesn't explain it to well, is the "Power-on Value". It doesn't do a damn thing.

Any suggestions?

-Chris

EDIT: New Info: When the car is shut off and the fan comes on, the MS stays on. I can pull the relay, causing the fan and MS to shut off. Then when I place the relay back in, it's normal.

EDIT #2: I put a diode in line to the relay and that fixed it up. Sheesh.
