MegaSquirt has been successfully used in all aspects of Internal Combustion engine applications including R&D, Industry, Race, and Research. from what i can gather. you are able to run up to 2 sets of injector banks. now i dont have really any efi knowledge other than what i have read on here. i am looking at installing msII on a v8. it is mpi so there is 8 injectors. so i am assuming it would be best to run 2 sets of 4. no my question....how is firing 4 injectors at once more efficent that the stock ecu controlling each injector seperatly? i mean that seems like there would be better atomization for the paticular cylinder being fired vs. the megasquirt just firing into a cylinder that is closed (3 of the 4 cylinders that arent nessicarly on there intake stroke?). i just need some information to fill in the gap for me because i am obviously missing a key factor somewhere. i appreciate any information. Thanks
GM TPI and even our aussie 90's commodores are bank/bank injection. Sequential is only a benefit at idle and cruising. At WOT they all pretty much shoot at the same time anyway. I'm just setting up bank/bank on my 400 Pontiac, using 42lb injectors and I expect nothing less than excellent results with the speed of the CPU in MS2 units.
hmm...that makes sense. is it best when setting up the two banks, to run the first 4 injectors of the firing order and then the next set? or just run one side of the motor on one bank and the other bank on the other side? for example....firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. run 1-8-4-3 as one bank and 6-5-7-2 as the other? am i being to critical? this motor will be going in a jeep and mostly used for rockcrawling...high torque applications, and excellent throttle response.
Honestly I can't answer that, but i'm going to my 400 up to fire left bank, right bank.... not follow the firing order for now. As I said, thats the way 000000's of cars left the factory, cant go to wrong hey
Krisr is right -- bank to bank will work very well. My small-block runs great wired like this. I think a few people have tried wiring the injectors following the firing order (1 4 6 7 on bank 1 -- 8 3 5 2 on bank 2) without significant difference in the way the engine ran. Bank-to-bank will certainly be easier to wire.
