MS II and EDIS SAW Signal

Post by fartech »

Hi to you all,

I'm new to MS. I've just finished MS 2 kit with V3.0 PCB. Im gonna use it with EDIS ignition but I'm a little afraid of SAW signal output from MS II. As I've noticed that this signal outputs directly from processor port (procesor pin 8) to EDIS module passing ONLY through 1Kohm resistor. Isn't it too dangerous for processor to operate directly EDIS module without buffering the signal from pin 8? If something's go wrong with EDIS what will protect the processor pin? So the question is: As there are two free NAND elements of U2 (74HC00) on MS II daughter card can I use them to buffer the signal from pin8 before it goes to R9 resistor? The delay in the signal from passing through this two NANDs will be no more than 60nS and I don't think this will make a significant influence in output signal. Thanks in advance

Wiring to the NAND gates may be a bit tricky and that is still an SMD should anything go wong. Instead maybe use a discrete transistor in the proto area with a pullup to +5v. Invert the output in Megatune or use two transistors.

Thanks James,

This is smarter solution. But I will use SN74HC07 instead of tranzistor.
