Help on TPI tuning

Post by superfiero »

I have a 86 k10 with a 350 bored .40" over and an rv cam. I am running ms v2.2 using mech dizzy for spark. I goin to be running the stock 19lb injectors with raised fuel pressure for better atomization. I am gettin spark, weak spark but still spark, and fuel. The problem is, its gettin too much fuel to fire. Im not sure the correct way to see when the injectors are firing, but I put a test light to the connector and when I turn on the ignition to power up ms, it puts power to the test light and doesnt shut off. Is there anything wrong with that? I have just jumped in head first into ms and I think im drowning. Help me please.

Also, I bought my completed ms from an ebay store with harness.

superfiero,

You should not have the injectors on full time. So something is wrong with your wiring (likely) or MegaSquirt (less likely). You might post some more info, like which processor and code you are using. You might also try looking in the troubleshooting section for tips on how to trace the injector signal from the CPU to the FETs for your main board to ruile out MegaSquirt problems.

Your VE table looks fine to start with.

There's nothing obviously wrong in your datalog.

You might check the starting tips here:

according to my datalog, the injectors are pulsing but only because my tach signal is goin from 0 to 100 back and forth. this strikes me as strange. I have read that manual many times, but nothing has explained the things I need to know. I did post that I was using v2.2 forgot to mention Im using standard mt 2.25b759. thanks

I found out that some stray wires from an injector bank came loose and touched another pin on the db37, pin # 14 which is blank. what would it matter that it got grounded. I did find out that it is pulsing so I guess nothing major is hurt, but the only led that comes on at all is the one closest to the db9 and it pulses with the injectors. What would cause the other led's to not work? the pump still turns on though, are the posts easy to break? thanks in advance

superfiero,

The MegaSquirt injector drivers should be okay. It sounds like the short wsasn't even large enough to blow the injector fuse...

The LED next to the DB9 should pulse, so that's good.

The LED in the middle should go on when the coolant sensor is cold (usually below 160°F). If the temperature is below this, and the LED doesn't come on, check in MegaTune to see what MegaSquirt *thinks* the temperature is. If it is 170°F then the coolant temperature sensor (or it's wiring) may be shorted or open (170 is the 'fault value'). Check the resistance between the DB37 pin for the CLT and ground, and compare it to the values here: http://www.megasquirt.info/v22manual/mwire.htm#clt

The LED furthest from the DB9 only comes on whe accel enrichment is on, I.e., when the TPS is changing rapidly (and/or the MAP if you have MAPdot accel enrichment). So you don't normally see this light very often (until you are racing around, anyhow!)

I think the coolant was showin around 36* the last time I logged. It was pretty cold that day so its prolly right. I didnt try to connect my palm yesterday but I dont think its connecting up. I will try again. I dont have a laptop yet, so that is making things difficult. I had to move my desktop out there to do the work! that sucks! I am goin to fix those loose wires on the db37 and report back tonight. I hope I didnt screw it up, even though he offered to check it out. I need to get this thing atleast started. Thanks
