Injector clickage

Post by natesully »

My DSM injectors click. Not that DSM injectors never click, but they started getting loud when I fixed my flyback. I run two in parallel on each driver, PWM set to 20% and 0.8 ms threshold. These settings have no effect on the clickage, which is odd since making the flyback work is what started the clicking. It could just be the cold, though, it's like 28 outside here.

Any ideas why injectors would click? I really need some nice new ones, but they are so darned expensive...

Every injector I've encountered clicks to a certain extent.

If it got worse when you enabled PWM, you were running what before? Straight 12v?

Perhaps you have damaged them?

Uhh, they stopped. I changed nothing. I started my car today, and no noise whatsoever. Still have horrid tach interference though!

My smart-aleck answer would be, "Because they are working," but it's not far from the truth. Every injector I've ever occasioned to listen to makes a distinct click when the pintle snaps open, if you put a stethoscope on them it is very easy to filter out from the clutter of other engine noises and I use the clicking as a primary diagnostic for a lot of non-start situations.

I seem to recall that low impedance injectors can be safely tested with a 9 volt battery or a pair of D cells in series. Is this correct?

I have the same injectors, they have always made really loud clicking noises compared to my other injectors. I drove 15k km on them like this and no problems. I've always found it weird though, they are so distinctive i can hear them in the car..even over my strait piped exhaust
