Waterproof case?

I'm a little confused over the waterproof level of the Microsquirt V3 case.

Fully waterproof case! Not just weather resistant; it can be completely submerged in water.

So which is it? I want/need something that is properly and reliably waterproof without worry.

The very next sentence after your quote from the quick start guide explains that the housing can be fully sealed with a small bead of your favourite gasket goo.

Yes, I know... But that does not make a case "properly" waterproof, at least in my opinion. It needs a flange designed for a gasket or seal. when submerged, it can take some pressure reliably. Is the flange of the case designed to be sealed or is it just a hack?

I've pulled mine apart, and the flange doesn't allow for an O ring or a compression seal as such. Yes as dontz125 says, gasket goo can be applied, but if it was me and I was looking at waterproofing, I would apply a sealing tape around the flat sides, and cover the screw heads too. This would be adequate for most needs, and would take some pressure from say direct jet blasts from pressure washers. Not sure the Ampseal is fully waterproof though, especially where the wires go into the connector, and yes I know there are polymer seals on Ampseal products, but this area would be a good use of "gasket goo, packing it down the wire inside the connector sleeve.

Okay. That is kind of depressing. The advertising is a bit misleading.

Without checking datasheets, I would say that the Ampseal connector IS fully water tight. If you're looking for something that's IP69K rated out of the box, you can use a MicroSquirt Module, a carrier board, and a ModICE ME enclosure.

What is your application, if you don't mind me asking? I know that the uS has been run on bikes, ATVs and jetskis, so even the older models could be made water-resistant 'enough' to function.

It is in a 4WD. I'm sure that I can make do. I just prefer a proper professional level install where the components are properly designed to be water tight. This gives a good reliable system that I don't ever need to worry about. Having the board crap out on me 5 days from civilization is not something I want to happen.

I wonder why they just did not make the case with a proper seal. It is simple enough to do and would not add greatly to the cost.

I will look into the other case. Is there a write up? I was not planning to do a big custom build on the board....as I thought this microsquirt was a perfect option...small, waterproof and fully assembled.

dontz125, I kinda know the Ampseal is basically waterproof, but the aperture isn't, and it was the comment "immersed in water" that made me add the scaremongering. I totally agree with you a Module board in a special enclosure is the way to go, and Jean Bèlanger's solution is excellent, and I have one of these too.
You will have to crimp your own harness, but it is a much enhanced Module board with extra goodies on the main board. He has a few left if you PM him. Well worth the money IMO.
