36-1 trigger wheel setting up..

Post by VEEDUBBED »

Hello all, I'm in the process of fitting the 36-1 trigger wheel onto my custom built aluminium crank pulley that's fitted onto my Vw 16 twin cam motor.
I've read up alot on this subject but i'm still a bit confused as how to time the wheel to no.1 piston at TDC. I'm more used to Weber/iaw that has a 4 pip disc that's timed opposite the VR signal sensor when the engine's at 10 BTDC, Can i time the tooth on the 36-1 wheel in the same way? what tooth has to be aligned with the sensor?
Is it absolutly nessesary for the VR sensor to be 90 degrees parallel to the sensor? or can i fit the VR sensor a little off 90 degrees?
Would it be possible to use the Weber 2 wire VR sensor already present or will i have to get a Ford or Gm equivalent sensor?
I've got the trigger wheel aligned with the 9th tooth and Weber sensor almost at 90 degrees opposite, is this ok?
Sorry for the many questions and thanks for any helpfull info.
Cheers!

Since you aren't using EDIS, the location of the #1 tooth really doesn't matter. Just tell the firmware where the #1 tooth is, and it will take care of the rest. With very few exceptions, a VR sensor is a VR sensor - your current sensor should work fine. You normally want the sensor edge-on to the wheel, but I believe a fellow is working on a tight bike install that has the sensor perpendicular to the wheel, and is having it work for him.
