Suzuki SV650 project

Post by joolski »

Hello MicroSquirt community,

I'm looking at using a MicroSquirt as a replacement ECU for the Suzuki SV650, and hoping that any bikers out there might be able to point me in the right direction to speed the project along.

Ok, so why am I looking to replace the standard ECU ? Well, I race the SV650 and the standard ECU has to be 'fooled' by using a power commander so we can map the engine to give the best results. Although this does work fine on the power restricted minitwin series, I'm also running a supertwin and here's where we are starting to hit on the limitations of the standard ecu + power commander setup.

The engine is a 90 degree V twin, and from looking at the basic device we only need to add the MAP module to get started.

Any pointers would be very handy, as I'm looking to purchase a device fairly soon.

Thanks in advance,

Jools

Wait - are you saying an EFI bike doesn't have a MAP sensor? Weird - the current R6 models have at least 2, if not 3!

If the sensors are all in place, then yes - the uS should work nicely. You may want to ponder the newest 'MS/Extra' firmware, as it will allow full-sequential ignition and injection control for singles and twins using the MAP sensor as a phase detector.

Ah, yes it does have a MAP sensor, missed that off the list !

Is it possible to include a gear sensor to alter maps based on the current gear ?

You only have two swappable spark maps and fuel maps, so you aren't going to get a 'per gear' map change. That said, and depending on how the gear position sensor works, I don't see why you couldn't work up an adapter circuit to signal a swap.
