Looking for a laptop...

Post by anonymous.shyster »

Currently, I am in need of a laptop to do some tuning soon. I've had a little look around at netbooks, for which I'd need a serial adapter of some sort. Then I noticed a Macbook could be picked up for around $400. So, what I am wondering is how good an option it is to use a Macbook and Megatunix? Are there any pitfalls I should be aware of?

No reason you can't, as long as MegaTunix supports your firmware of choice (it doesn't support as many variants as TunerStudio). Note that TunerStudio also runs on a Mac, so it's really a matter of preference.

I ended up being given a ASUS laptop that wouldn't switch on. A new stick of memory later and I've got FreeBSD installed on it. I was able to get both Tuner Studio and the latest git version of Megatunix working with no problems yet. Now I just need to find a good usb or pcmcia to serial converter...
