TACHOUT is inop

Post by Matt293 »

Hey,

I have completed the intallation of microsquirt V2 on my ER5 bike and have the engine idling and revving ok. However, I am unable to get a tach out signal.
I have wiried it up to the OEM tacho which is a 12V gauge and I have set TACHOUT to ON at normal speed, using the TACHOUT signal wire and it does not work, I have also tried swapping the Tach signal to use WLED, ALED, and F-IDLE as I am not using any of these wires for anything and it still does not work. I am coming short of installing a tach adapter. But i would really like to rectify the problem and install that as a last resort.

It is hard to auto tune the engine without knowing what the exact rpm. I only know roughly what the engine speed is by listening while I ride

Do you have any ideas on what may be causing this problem?

Cheers,

Matt

When you say you have "set TACHOUT to ON at normal speed", this has nothing to do with the tach out signal, it has to do with maintaining sync on the opto or vr in signals. Also the only tachout in microsquirt is on pin 35, so ALED. WLED will not work. But if you have rpm and are driving the bike, then you should have a 12V tach out signal. However it may take more than that to satisfy your tachometer. The only adjustment I know of is to use the Tach Signal Settings menu and try changing the PW or duty cycle of the tachout signal. Some tachs require a tach out with the pulse always in a specific duration range, others require the pulse to always have its duty cycle in a specific range. These inputs are only in the 3.x code (3.780 is current code and has it).

I am still unable to get a signal, even when I test it using a multimeter to check both frequency and volts.
Thanks for your help anyway Grippo. Most appreciated :)
