high map readings interfering with autotune

Post by classic-indy »

My engine idle is 90 +/- 2 kpa. what can I do for auto tune. Since its my understanding that autotune will only tune when the MAP sensor is reading below 90 kpa. I'm running my system on a 2 stroke snowmobile, i've double checked the map readings with a vacuum gauge, so i know they are correct.

Also i've just changed over from Megatune to tunerstudio, and tunerstudio seemingly automatically knows the engine setup i.e. displacement etc. This was a change from a desktop to a new netbook. So what do i need to do to transfer the very basic tuning i did in megatune into tunerstudio? just a simple save or should I save the file on a thumb drive and transfer the full file over?

The best way to move the settings over is to just connect up to the MicroSquirt. TunerStudio will read the settings directly from that and you can be sure you have what you have.

But it is fine to load an msq from MegaTune too. Just make sure you create a project in TunerStudio before doing either.

VE Analyze does not mind a high MAP at idle, so I think that will take care of your troubles there.

Thanks for the reply,

I did create a project when I first got the Microsquirt to talk to tunerstudio. I also ran the snowmobile to determine if my processor was capable of handling the program. The program runs so smooth :D If my MAP readings are always high, i.e. 85kpa above should I skew my VE table for this?

Yes, probably. There is no point wasting bins down at 40 kPa if you don't use them.
but before you eliminate them make sure you don't use them while running at higher RPM. Often engines have high MAP at/near idle, but at 3000 or 4000 RPM they may still run down there.

I did because my MAP starts at around 70 kPa at idle on the Thunderace. So I increased the resolution, smaller steps up to 100kPa above idle, but coarser bigger chunks underneath this point to free up the extra rows I needed above idle kPa. Worked for me on the inertia dyno, never took it down the road though.
