Regulators

Post by classic-indy »

I'm Currently working on Microsquirting my snowmobile, and I've got a wiring question. The snowmobile has a 14.3 AC volt regulator currently installed on the snowmobile. Can I wire this in or will I damage the ECU???

Next question, do I have to run the ECU on DC power? or will AC suffice.....

Unless I'm sadly mistaken, EVERYTHING relating to EFI is DC - pump, injectors, sensors, and most definitely the uS controller.

Is your alternator 1- or 3-phase? Either way, I'd recommend you check around on EBay and look for a recent-model voltage regulator / rectifier - the Yamaha R6 has a proven design, and can be had for $40-60 from various wreckers.

I assume this is the lighting coil - the few-hundred Vac of the CDI charging coil would be difficult to deal with. How many watts does your alternator put out?

280 W, I ordered an AC/DC converter, and when I got it and immediately read the instructions and it can only handle max 6W........DOH!!!!

Good advice... not taken! That's the big  :)
PS I would have got a bike regulator too. 8)

EDITED 'cos I didn't get the quote tags right & it took 4 attempts!

Hate it when that happens... :?

Seriously, get a modern VRR from an R1 or R6 or something similar from a bike wreckers. Medium AC-DC regulation and conversion is what they do, and do it very well.
