The MegaSquirt Project has experienced explosive growth other the years, with hundreds of new MS installations occurring every week - a phenomenal success! MegaSquirt has been successfully used in all aspects of Internal Combustion engine applications including R&D, Industry, Race, and Research. The MS project has transformed itself from a simple R&D project into a full-featured mature engine control system. To reflect this the support structure has also changed to meet the needs of MegaSquirt Users.
Moving forward, the R&D forums for MegaSquirt project are in a read-only mode - no new forum posts are accepted.
However the forums will remain available for view, they still contain a wealth of information on how MegaSquirt works, how it is installed and used. Feel free to search the forums for information, facts, and overview. While the R&D forum traffic has slowed in recent years, this is not at all a reflection of Megasquirt users, which continue to grow year after year. What has changed is that the method of MegaSquirt support today has rapidly moved to Facebook, this is where the vast majority of interaction is happening now. For those not on Facebook the msextra forums is another place for product support. Finally, for product selection assistance, all of the MegaSquirt vendors are there to help you select a system, along with all of the required pieces to make it complete.
This forum is for discussing ignition setup, tuning, and troubleshooting for MicroSquirt (TM)

Hi, very new to this, think i have corrupted my microsquirt as i read a previous thread that had same symptoms, fuel pump is coming on and off every second and cannot connect to microsquirt. It was using the 2.89 code, in plain english how do i re-flash the code back to ecu? where do i get code from and how do i set it up so i can flash it back? Sorry but still learning.
Thanks.
Here is how you load or reload code to your Microsquirt:
Close all other programs.
Open the MS2 downloader program.
Go to "file" and then "settings" make sure that it says "com 1"(or whatever com port that you're using) as the com port and "115200" as the com speed. Click ok to exit that screen.
Make sure that the boot wire is grounded, if it isn't power the Microsquirt off and connect it, go ahead and power it back on after you do this.
Go back to "file" and then select "open" Go to your "C" drive and find the "program files" folder, open it and find the "MegaSquirt" folder in there. Then find the "MS2-MicroSquirt 2.885"(or which ever firmware that you are looking to use) and select the s19 file, it will have a name like "Monitor_vX.XXX.abs" Double click that and everything should work automatically.
After that gets done, you'll power the Microsquirt off and unground the boot wire, and set the ECU type in MegaTune. And thats it, you have now loaded or reloaded the firmware.
Thank you both, looks and seems pretty straight forward, was trying to load a basic zetec code just to get engine started, having a nightmare ! Will an MS1 msq work on the microsquirt as its the only zetec msq i can find, do i load the msq in the same way i.e bootlogger mode?
No an MS1 msq will not work on microsquirt - you can only use the numbers, but they have to be manually entered , although there is a shortcut to allow loading VE and spark tables from a file.
Note that on a fresh download the microsquirt will cycle the fuel pump on and off until you load an msq or go under the General menu and set the ECU Type to microsquirt.
Thanks, i still do not have an msq to load tho, as i am pretty new to this i doubt i could write my own, had the microsquirt fitted in car for 2 months and it still hasnt fired ! I'd be happy with a pop and a bang lol, do you know of any ford zetec 2.0 msq's running standard non edis module coil pack and standard efi, anything just to atleast get it to fire and help restore my faith in the product, many thanks.
When you reload code there is a default msq. To activate it all you need to do is set the ECU type to microsquirt. Then go through all the menus and change what is obvious. For the not so obvious you have to read the manual. It's not plug and play because otherwise why not just get a zetec OEM ecu.
Ok, managed to get code back in, megatune wont connect thru any port and tuner studio will only see the port if i open up a project. Even with the base msq and with obvious values changed it wont fire, pump is coming on normally, gauges are registering, cranking speed is mad tho...4000 plus i think this is where the problem is, but output2 still isnt firing or doing whatever it does, output1 lights up when igniition is set to on not sure if thats right or not, am i missing something obvious? Thanks
If the rpm isn't right you have to fix that first - you don't want the ignition to fire at the wrong time, so be glad its not firing. The rpm can be screwed up for two reasons: either the input configuration is wrong or there is noise on the VR input. Have you looked for zetec success stories or searched these and the msefi forums to get a zetec msq, assuming you have the same ignition. If you have a distributor or EDIS ignition, you can look at the megamanual for how to set those up. If you have a toothed wheel setup you can look at the www.microsquirt.info site, and on the left side there is a dual spark link. That describes all of the configurations you can use, and at the end there are even more links to different set ups.
Using a 36-1 crank wheel, coilpack, no edis module, standard efi, in effect all i am doing is replacing the oem ecu with the microsquirt, no changes have been made to anything else, checked a friends zetec instalment today, the coil pack has a 3 pin plug, centre pin is ignition live, 2 outside pins are what the outputs1 and 2 from the microsquirt connect to, his shows no reading with a test light on these outer pins during cranking (his is a running engine btw) but my plug lights the test light when connected to ign1 so is getting a live feed from somewhere i would imagine, any ideas? I know the quality of the unit is not in question but does it seem like something is not connected quite right? All i have done is connect the ign1 and ign2 to the coil pack outer pins
so i cannot see it being a miswiring issue.
Chris.
