Gutting carbs to make throttle plate and injector mount?

Post by Greg_E »

I'm thinking of doing a Kawasaki Ninja 250 carb to EFI build and I know getting the throttle plates from a wreck are going to be very difficult because they did bring the Fi version to the USA yet. So what I was thinking is that I could get a set of carbs, pull out all the "stuff" inside and block up all the holes that need to be blocked, then machine or weld or whatever an injector socket into the assembly. Of course I would need to make a custom fuel rail to go with it, and find a bunch of other parts too, but this sounded like something that I might be able to do. Or is this crazy talk?

Alternate but less preferred would be to take a single throttle plate from something like a dead car, and plumb intake runners to the cylinders. I'm holding this in reserve for when I get going. Might even go out and rip the throttle body off my hulk Chevy Metro 3 cylinder for the parts, probably steal the MAF while I'm at it.

The Ninja 250 tops out at about 30 horsepower and redlines at about 14,000 rpm. I'd probably start by just controlling the fuels and let the stock ignition handle the spark ("little" steps???).
