OK. I can tell you, though, that you don't have to dig far into the Saturn coils to get to the leads.

Also, Accel makes an aftermarket Saturn coil that can be had from most auto parts stores for about $45. It's a pretty yellow :-)

If you happen to go back to the junk yard, though, the other thing you might consider is a Mazda Miata coil. These are double-tower as well, and have built-in ignitors.

Cheers,
Paul

Ok, so with microsquirt we can direct drive a edis coil without the control module.

Wait - what? Where did you get that idea? The EDIS module IS the coil driver; remove the module, you remove the driver.

I got it from here http://www.microsquirt.info/dcoil.htm. I am doing research for my zetec turbo setup. I dont want to be enslaved to sct. Line 1 says the microsquirt system has Drivers. Can we direct drive coils with no ignitor or do I need to go grab a miata coil that has a ignitor built in?

" A couple of things to note for those installs that are direct-driving ignition coils with MicroSquirt® (i.e. not using an ignition driver module but instead using the VB921 drivers in the MicroSquirt): "

This post was well put to bed, amazed you've uncovered it in your info search.
Not sure you're looking before purchasing, but the Microsquirt V3 (now available) does not have internal drivers and will require smart coils, or the "quad spark" by DIYA for a clever 4 channel miniature packaged module, or you can create your own driver with BIP373's (better heat control, better overal its been stated than the old VB921).
If you locate a V2 vintage Microsquirt, it does have 2 internal drivers available but what many (myself included) have found is the noise transfer isn't worth the conveniance.
I've since graduated to "sequential" ignition and have 4 separate smart Nisan coils.

You will find that taking advantage of the provision of the upgraded manuals (many thanks to James) will be your best friend moving forward :RTFM: .
In the meanwhile, I happen to have a link to this DIYA tidbit which goes over pretty well everything you need:

http://www.diyautotune.com/tech_article ... squirt.htm

I utilized a couple from them, mounted into a miniature enclosure and wired acording to those instructions (back along the way while testing out different styles of coils). Pretty simple stuff.
Good luck.

Lorne.
