EDIS 4 Wiring & Configuration

Post by mhandx1 »

Hi! Can anyone help.....

I have been asked by a friend to install a MicroSquirt system with a EDIS 4.

The problem that I have is the wiring diagrams and setup for EDIS all seem to be for the MegaSquirt.

What do I need to configure on the MicroSquirt in order to run a EDIS set up and which connections do the SAW +5 & PIP +12 go to??

Would it be better to forget the EDIS set up and just drive the coils direct from the MicroSquirt??

Thanks In advance and any help would be appreciated

Driving the coils directly from Microsquirt would be pretty straightforward. But you could wire PIP to OPTOIN+, ground OPTOIN-, and run IGN 1 to SAW and connect a 1K resistor between IGN 1 and VREF.

Hi Matt,

Many thanks for the reply and info.

If I set the internal jumpers JP5 & JP6 to ignition logic level output will the 1K resistor still be required?

The only reason that we are currently looking at a EDIS install is due to the concerns of electrical noise on the system using the ignition drive outputs, however is there any major issues or concerns with spikes from the direct drive method?

Many thanks,

Mark.

If you set the jumpers to logic level, you won't need the pull up. I was still thinking of the old V1.0 version.

Matt, are those the wiring instructions for wiring the MicroSquirt to the EDIS computer? I have been looking all over and have still not been able to find a definitive guide for linking the two. As it was stated earlier, all the EDIS info online seems to relate to connecting it to the MegaSquirt. I am looking to connect it to my MicroSquirt (no relay board), as it seems to be the easiest way to run an electronic ignition system on my 80cc single cylinder engine.
