The MegaSquirt Project has experienced explosive growth other the years, with hundreds of new MS installations occurring every week - a phenomenal success! MegaSquirt has been successfully used in all aspects of Internal Combustion engine applications including R&D, Industry, Race, and Research. The MS project has transformed itself from a simple R&D project into a full-featured mature engine control system. To reflect this the support structure has also changed to meet the needs of MegaSquirt Users.
Moving forward, the R&D forums for MegaSquirt project are in a read-only mode - no new forum posts are accepted.
However the forums will remain available for view, they still contain a wealth of information on how MegaSquirt works, how it is installed and used. Feel free to search the forums for information, facts, and overview. While the R&D forum traffic has slowed in recent years, this is not at all a reflection of Megasquirt users, which continue to grow year after year. What has changed is that the method of MegaSquirt support today has rapidly moved to Facebook, this is where the vast majority of interaction is happening now. For those not on Facebook the msextra forums is another place for product support. Finally, for product selection assistance, all of the MegaSquirt vendors are there to help you select a system, along with all of the required pieces to make it complete.
This forum is for discussing ignition setup, tuning, and troubleshooting for MicroSquirt (TM)

Will this ignition wheel work or will i have to change it out to one with more teeth? This is what the stock '92 zx7 wheel looks like. This whole ignition thing has me stumped.
You'd need a different design, and unless there are two sensors, one with more teeth. (If there are two sensors, it could work by grinding off the short tooth.)
No it only has one vr sensor. I found these the first one is from a suzuki so i don't know if it will fit or how to index it correctly. The second one is a factory pro unit but dose it have enough teeth?
The software works off one edge, so pick one. Say rising edge. Then take a soft measuring tape and measure from rising edge to rising edge and write down the numbers. (You don't have to do it for every tooth - its obvious from the picture that all but one of the teeth are the same in each case. If the biggest number is an integer multiple of the regular teeth, then the wheel will work. If both work, I would pick the one with the most teeth unless you are planning to run really high rpm - like > 15000.
So if i modify the stock wheel do i have to have x amount of teeth (I have access to a shop). Do i need to leave that long pause/space there or can I have teeth all around? I will try to leave the tdc marks on it, this is were the long tooth is.
As Matt said, the stock wheel won't work unless you use a second sensor, grind off the short tooth and go to a dual tach setup. You would be better off using the second wheel - I don't think you would have to do anything to get that to work. I would install that one, run it on the program that was released on the thread above this "So how many teeth do I really need" and see what the waveform looks like right on your pc. This will tell you how to set it up in Megatune.
