fuel line connection ( fixed)

i want to connect my fuel pump directly to my motorcycle fuel tank, it will be gravity feed.
i have been told by a fuel injection guy that i can return the fuel to the pump through a y connection. and that i would not need to return it to the fuel tank.

any thoughts on this !

I would have thought the Y-connection would work. What problem(s) did you have with it?

Also, to verify, the setup is something like this, right?

Tank-Y-Fuel Pump-Fuel Rail-Fuel Pressure Regulator-other side of Y

Because of yamaha's stupid low fuel tank, gravity isn't its best quality.
i have been chasing a problem with overheating fuel pumps, i tried returning the fuel through a " y" back to the pump. but it made no difference. so i have now simplified everything, basically i have two holes drilled in my tank. one gose through a 3/8 hose using a low pressure filter, connected to my MSD pump...which is lower than the tank. this is then connected to the fuel rail and that returns to my tank. it doesnt seem to overheat at the moment...but it will not prime properly, i have to operate the kill switch a couple of times. i might see if i can get a non return valve or something

For mine I went with an in-tank pump and made a "panel mount" 5/16" tap for the high pressure output for which I drilled a new hole in the tank. I use the petcock, set to prime, for the fuel return.

There are probably easier ways to make a high pressure tap, but I cut apart a 5/16" brass double barb, soldered it to a threaded 5/16" brass barb and made a nut from 1/4" copper sheet to retain it. That allowed me to clamp the fuel pump hose to the barb inside the tank, then feed the barb through the 10mm hole and fasten it in place with the nut from the outside.

When you say yours doesn't prime properly, is that only after you've had the system apart, or just between runs? Last time I had my tank drained, it took about 5 or 6 runs of the priming cycle to prime the pump. From there, though, it holds good standing pressure and pressurizes immediately on restart.
