Short intro and my bike project

Post by TYSON »

Hi Guys,

Just thought i would introduce myself seeing as i will probably now be spending some time here.

I'm currently in the middle of fitting a turbo to a Hayabusa and of course running a microsquirt. (Also have a megasquirt sitting in the draw to try as well)

The goal is about 550+ horsepower at the rear wheel on race fuel and about 350 on premium pump fuel.

The project has been coming along quite well, had a few setbacks and have managed to blow the original budget well out of the water as you normally do.

After 10 months in the planning and sourcing parts stage of the project the bike came off the road at Christmas. The motor was rebuilt with required parts to support the power and the bike is now going back together in a mock up state to ensure everything fits right.

The microsquirt will be used for fuel only and the ignition will come from an MSD MC-4 unit.

I'll leave you with a couple of pics of the bike over the last month.

Cheers
James

All I could say is wow, my jaws dropped, very clean, well packaged.
So is the IC core inside the plenum or you plan on running an external IC.
Nice CNC plenum BTW, I never seen one this nice yet.
So I guess you will need 2 sets of maps for both fuels.
Did you use a thicker HG or went the pistons way, comp ratio, rods ??
Since your swingarm is stock length, I guess this will be a street bike, there will be a lot of people gathering around this bike :D

Thanks, yep the the IC is in the plenum, we are building a support radiator to cool it that will sit behind the headlight and utilise the now redundant ram air holes. It actually comes from ontario, Canada http://www.rccturbos.com/

The swingarm, pictured is the stock swingarm but due to the amount of power the bike would be a nightmare so i went for an extended 3-9inch custom arm, again from canada :) We are just waiting for it to be finished and then have it freighted over. But yes it will still be a streetbike we'll just shorten the wheelbase up.

Went with JE turbo pistons and a .080" spacer underneath the cylinder to achieve a cr of 8.5:1, I will probably have to pump near on 30/35psi of boost to acheive the power levels i'm chasing so rods were replaced with carrillo H Beams. With no little hiccups in the tune the motor should hold together to about 600hp safely. I've got a list of the other things that have gone into here http://www.hiboosta.com/specifications/

Yep, two maps however i'm thinking that i will try and just run low boost on pump fuel (we have 98octane here) on the race fuel map and see how it goes. I'd love if race fuel was cheap here but unfortunately we are paying 6 USD a liter for C16 a tad over $100 a tank :(

Picture of the cooler core, not my exact one as i forgot to snap pics of the inside.

Very well done, it is hard to achieve such a low compression on bikes that were designed for way higher comp, my only worry is that spacer, if the chambers are squish types, it may slow down the combustion, making it a tad harder to tune and hindering the top end since they have a pretty big bore, ASAP burn is important, but it may be impossible to get a compression this low without a shim. It is hard to guess what will give the most power in term of compromise, but you are probably on the right track and you definitely seem to have done your homeworks.

I guess that the speed limit will be purely theoretical and the rider's nerves the only limit or maybe the bikes instability from aerodynamics, on a hot day the air pockets will feel like concrete blocks.

Don't wear a T-shirt :D
