Micro Squirt for Moto Guzzi Breva 1100

Post by kerbel »

Hi all,

Can I expect some problems with Micro Squirt (or Mega Squirt II) on a Guzzi V2 ?I`ve read about some problems with V2 and 90 degree engines due to odd fire.
My Moto Guzzi has still a stock Weber Marelli ECU with Narrow Lambda. Additional it has a sensor on cam driven by a wheel with 48 theets.

regards

The Microsquirt has provision for odd-fire engines, but since it's not released yet (it's due for release very soon) I don't think anyone has been able to try it out. The code is being refined right now as well.

Microsquirt will do odd fire only for ignitions with two independent tach inputs without toothed wheels.

Ok, if I understand Grippo, I can forget to implement MicroSquirt for my Moto Guzzi ???
Arrrrgh !!

If you are prepared to fit a 2nd sensor and a wheel with one or two teeth (for example) then you have a chance, but since no-one has done it before maybe forget it, unless you are the adventurous type. There will be lots of support on this forum but you need to be good at basic electronics, or know someone who is.

Basically you won't be able to just wire up a Microsquirt to your bike, you will have to change/modify the wheel and add another sensor.

Hmm, but how operates the stock ECU with this damn odd fire ? Could it be possible to take stock ignition output signal for Microsquirt ignition input ?
If I will not use MS ignition part, is it possible to run only injection part from MS without adding a second sensorwheel etc.. ?

kind regards

What are you hoping to accomplish by replacing your stock ECU with a MicroSquirt? Are you trying to adjust it and have no other options? I am not familiar with MotoGuzzi, do they make a Technlusion DFO or PowerCommander for your bike? They aren't as adjustable as a mircosquirt but I doubt you are road/drag racing your Guzzi.

I`ve build a spezial exhaust and I`ve fine tuned tho whole engine. The stock ECU doesn`t fit now with these changes.
I need a better adjustable ECU for my engine now. Power Commander is still not available for my Moto Guzzi and a Power Commander does not offer the great flexibility of a Micro or Mega Squirt.
I`m only road cruising with my Guzzi, nothing drag or other racing, but I will try to reduce the gasoline consumption from actual 5,5-6 litres to 4,5-5 litres. O.K. it would be fine, if engine power would also increase a small range.
Are some other piggybacks/ECU available on the market who will do this job affordable ?

If you just want to do fuel-only you should be able to trigger the Microsquirt from one of your coils! I was under the impression you wanted ignition control as well, which requires specific hardware. Microsquirt should be able to share a few if not all of the sensors on the bike. I fitted MS to my Buell m/cycle for exactly the same reasons, and for rideability issues. It turned out really well.

In a first step I will optimize fuel only and in a second step I will optimize the ignition.
Fuel only optimizing without optimizing ignition is not optimizing in my eyes.
But if it`s so complicated to find a solution for odd fire ignition, I`ve to search for other Hard/Software who is able to work like wanted.
