no rpm signal???

Post by tech-d »

Just built my ms2 to run on my 81 280zx turbo motor. on the bench the ms2 works fine. but with it in the car i don't get an rpm signal in to mega tune, i am using a points type trigger (pertronix) to signal the rpm. which is a 2 wire system, red 12v, black is signal out which i have connected to the silver ign wire on the harness and i do recieve a signal to the db37. on the wiring diagram it shows the silver wire and a black wire going to a reluctor wheel but in my application i have no space for the black wire so i have it grounded but it doesn't seem to make a difference if its grounded or not. any ideas would be greatly appreciated thanks, David

Howdy.

Have you configure jumpers on your board correctly ? I believe for point type pickup you need to conenct hall type sensor, and you might need 5V, not 12 send to it. it's all in v3 assemply manual.

i think i figured out the pertronix problem, its sending a ground signal to the ecu but the ecu is looking for a power signal from a hall effect so i've used a reed relay to inverse the signal and now i have a smooth tach input but now it will idle erratically then die i can keep it running with my foot on the gas but it doesn't seem to be controlling my afr properly any ideas???
