Having trouble tuning: high idle VE, strange Datalogs
I've been trying to get my start up better, but keep running into problems. I need to set my warm up to something crazy like 170-200% at 130deg F to be able to roll on the throttle smoothly. If I set it to something normal like 105-110, I have to jab at the throttle and sort of "work" the rpms up. After the car warms up, it runs well, nothing out of the ordinary, engine runs smoothly, doesn't stall, etc.
I figured I'd start over. I warmed the car up, and tried readjusting my idle. I turned in my idle set screw on my tb, and I played around in the autotune screen, and got the car to idle around 1000rpm, 35-40kpa. Problem is, my VE is 65. Also, after I shut the car off, turned it back on and started to drive, it wouldn't idle at that point. It kept sputtering, and stalled. After a short drive, it idled, but at a higher kpa/lower VE (about 55kpa/55VE). It would seem I closed the idle set too much.
And another problem, after about 30 min. of datalogging, MST3000 suggests quite a bizarre looking datalog.

Like I said, the car runs alright using base maps I found at vwvortex.com.
any help would be appreciated and thanks in advance.

wihtout accenrich you are limited only to VERY slow throttle movements. Think driving like grandma... you SHOULD be able to drive slowly and gently with well tuned ve table and no accelenrich.
do you have wideband ?
are your plugs ok or fouled ?
are you controlling timing aswell ? or just fuel ?
try doing it like that:
1. warmup the engine
2. save your current settings
3. generate brand new ve table using table generator
4. set sfterstart and warmup settings to default ones (like in default msq)
5. crank the engine. if it doesnt run try adjusting your fuel-req until it runs. be very carefull not to flood the engine. unless you want some wierd engine, try to make it idle on something like 14.0:1 AFR...
I have a narrowband 02 sensor.
Haven't checked my plugs in a while, but I don't think it's running rich/fouling plugs.
I am controlling timing as well.
I've been thinking try a fresh install, start again. The first time, I didn't mess around with my req_fuel, as I calculated that with the injector information. Now, it's sounding like my req_fuel might be off.
The table generator suggests a table very similar to the base map I was using (before changing the idle VE's and such).
The car can run on almost anything. I downloaded new cranking pw using the stim board and 9v battery, got the low voltage message. Turns out it wiped my VE table to straight 255 across the board. Car still ran, albeit poorly. Problem is getting the car to run well.
thanks for the suggestions
This is all with the base VE and Spark maps from the vortex threads.
Only thing that concerns me is now my duty cycle is almost 100 at red line.
I knew it was lean around idle, but it ran really well above 2k. Didn't think it was that lean.
Any ideas what could be wrong?
