Hard to start
My MS-1 is running great but the car is hard to start, especially when cold, but runs reliably once it fires up.
What should the procedure be for setting up the starting mixture?

There is no general procedure, as there are a number of factors, some of which are highly dependent on specific engine combinations. There is a bit of info here: http://www.msefi.com/viewtopic.php?p=11 ... ing#113027 and here: http://www.megamanual.com/v22manual/mtune.htm#howto.
If the car is hard to start cold, you have to decide if that's because it is too rich or too lean.
Generally, cold starts are better if too rich than too lean, so you might increase the cold cranking pulse width by 10% or so.
Then if the engine tries to start, but stalls after a second or two, then you need to work on your afterstart enrichments (which should be at least 30% for 250 cycles to start).
If the engine runs for more than a half dozen seconds or so before stalling, then you need to work on your warm-up enrichments.
