The MegaSquirt Project has experienced explosive growth other the years, with hundreds of new MS installations occurring every week - a phenomenal success! MegaSquirt has been successfully used in all aspects of Internal Combustion engine applications including R&D, Industry, Race, and Research. The MS project has transformed itself from a simple R&D project into a full-featured mature engine control system. To reflect this the support structure has also changed to meet the needs of MegaSquirt Users.
Moving forward, the R&D forums for MegaSquirt project are in a read-only mode - no new forum posts are accepted.
However the forums will remain available for view, they still contain a wealth of information on how MegaSquirt works, how it is installed and used. Feel free to search the forums for information, facts, and overview. While the R&D forum traffic has slowed in recent years, this is not at all a reflection of Megasquirt users, which continue to grow year after year. What has changed is that the method of MegaSquirt support today has rapidly moved to Facebook, this is where the vast majority of interaction is happening now. For those not on Facebook the msextra forums is another place for product support. Finally, for product selection assistance, all of the MegaSquirt vendors are there to help you select a system, along with all of the required pieces to make it complete.

Hi Everyone,
I'm trying to get my friend's saturn working with the MS2, he's currently running the MS1 on there.
He's using the MSD tach signal generator, and for some reason the MS2 does not like the signal it's giving out, as it's not showing any tach signal. I tried that same MS2 unit on my car, which was runnin the MS1 and I get the cranking signal. I'm not using hte MSD unit, just the stock ICM.
Does anyone know what type of signal that MSD unit puts out? The MS2 is running 2.34, and it's set up for the hall signal I believe.
Thanks!
Teb
I've never heard of an "MSD Tach Signal Generator" ,
can you clarify this ?
If it's just a regular ole MSD 6 and you are using the Tach output terminal ,
then the output is a 0 to 12volt square wave , perfect for driving MS , unless
you are using MS to control the Timing , in that case it won't work at all .
Every bit of information about your installation is important in trying to
diagnose problems .
I think I've seen this unit. Though I'm not sure what it does. My understanding is it helps share a RPM signal from other existing devices? Jim knows what is up. More info please?

Hey sorry bout the long delay...well the msd tach generator is basically just a little box that takes the power going to the ignition controll module and converts it into a tach signial im pretty sure its square wave, im not using a actual msd box on this...the thing is it runs the MS1 fine no problems...i can get the car to run on the ms2 off the stock tach signial but for some reason my signial gets "dirty" persay somehow, and the car shuts off and wont restart for about a half hour....im stumped....
some obd2 and later saturns require one of these to run the MS unit. However, jw, the guy with the problem ^^ has a 95, which is still obd1. That's why we're stumped. This msd unit runs the MS1 fine, but not the MS2... pretty freakin weird We're probably going to replace the whole wire harness for the engine, and the pcm.
