Idle and overheating

Post by RobC »

running MS1 on zetec

Engine is idling ok with a borrowed map but my idle rpm is 2400rpm... which to me seems very high... How can I get this down? PW is about 4 and crank degree is 17 with high-impedance injectors

:? getting confused by the whole thing...

Reading the megamanual again... would this be to do with crank pulse widths which were set at 10 :? possibly?

cheers for any help...

just lower your ve bins around idle point and/or reduce the amount or air getting to engine at idle....

If it's idling at 2400 it's using the VE bins corresponding to that rpm and whatever MAP it's running at. Reducing VE numbers won't fix this problem. A properly adjusted speed-density system will gladly and properly fuel excess air in the intake. Your idle speed of 2400 indicates you have excess air getting in somehow. There are numerous potential causes - idle screw set too high, leaky manifold/TB gasket, leaky manifold/head gasket, a crack in a manifold, a loose connection after the TB, a leaky IAC valve or even a leaky advance diaphragm in a distributor that has vac advance.

Many thanks... hadn't thought of that... just had a new map sent to me and it's lowered the RPM to 1700 but... you might be right about a leak... I'll check and lot you know

Cheers
