The MegaSquirt Project has experienced explosive growth other the years, with hundreds of new MS installations occurring every week - a phenomenal success! MegaSquirt has been successfully used in all aspects of Internal Combustion engine applications including R&D, Industry, Race, and Research. The MS project has transformed itself from a simple R&D project into a full-featured mature engine control system. To reflect this the support structure has also changed to meet the needs of MegaSquirt Users.
Moving forward, the R&D forums for MegaSquirt project are in a read-only mode - no new forum posts are accepted.
However the forums will remain available for view, they still contain a wealth of information on how MegaSquirt works, how it is installed and used. Feel free to search the forums for information, facts, and overview. While the R&D forum traffic has slowed in recent years, this is not at all a reflection of Megasquirt users, which continue to grow year after year. What has changed is that the method of MegaSquirt support today has rapidly moved to Facebook, this is where the vast majority of interaction is happening now. For those not on Facebook the msextra forums is another place for product support. Finally, for product selection assistance, all of the MegaSquirt vendors are there to help you select a system, along with all of the required pieces to make it complete.
For engine experimenters, the MicroSquirt® PCB is offered in a module format with enhanced capabilities to be plugged into other boards. This is the place to discuss the MicroSquirt Module.
So, I've been doing my homework and is seems the MicroSquirt is what I'm looking for. I'm trying to put the edis 8 on my Ford 351w and keep it Carbureted. I have a Hydrogen input , so efi is not in the mix, nor do I wish to go that route. Unfortunately, I haven't seen much about people putting the edis on carbureted v8's. What would I have to do in order to put it on with the MicroSquirt controller?
I know this is an old post, but in case someone else stumbles in, I will provide the info I have. The most "factory" way to add EDIS to a Ford 351W is to use the timing cover and harmonic balancer from a 1996 351 (F150 or Bronco) and the 36-1 trigger wheel from a late model 5.0 Explorer. The Explorers were EDISbut use a one piece 50 oz balancer/crank pulley. However, the 36-1 ring is pressed on the balancer and is easily removed. The '96 351w uses a 28 oz balancer with a bolt on crank pulley. It also uses a 4 point reluctor ring for OBDII misfire detection. The 4 point ring on the 351 balancer is the same ID as the 36-1 ring on the Explorer balancer. You can easily add the Explorer ring to the 351 balancer. The '96 F150 (5.0 or 351) uses the same timing cover as the EDIS 5.0 Explorer which includes the necessary crank sensor mount. Once it's all put together, it will look like it rolled off the assembly line like that.
You can do the same thing with a '96 F150 5.0 (50 oz) balancer as it has the same 4 point ring as the 351. You could also use the Explorer balancer on a 5.0 but you would have to use the Explorer accessories since the crank pulley is integrated into the Explorer balancer. The F150 balancer uses a bolt on crank pulley which gives you many more options for accessories.

PS, if you are not going to use EFI, you might as well save a couple bucks and get the MegaJolt/E which will run the EDIS timing without any fuel management.
