map sensor locked out

Post by Towelie »

we've finished wiring up the harness and trying to calibrate the sensors. The tps sensor works fine, however the MAP sensor has been calibrated, but it just stays at 18 kpa regardless of pressure change. Moving the TPS around also makes the map sensor reading fluctuate slightly.

Does anyone have any reasons for the map sensor to do this?
its a prt06/00 from triggerwheels.com

When we measured the vref signal was only outputting 1.03V, whereas this should read a 5v.

Also when we power cycle the ecu, tunerstudio fails to pickup the connection again, until the usb adapter is unplugged and plugged back in.

The laptop in use has been used on an ms2v3 ms installed on a mx5 which has no problems like this.

Any help much appreciated!

Your MAP sensor puts out a signal based on the pressure AND the input voltage. If it receives 5v, the signal is based on 5v; if the sensor receives only 1.03v, then it can only send a signal based on 1.03v. Since the ECU is expecting a signal based on a 5v signal, it will assume that signal coming through of merely 1.03v represents a pretty strong vacuum!

Trace your wiring; you have a short of some kind that is pulling down your Vref. Hopefully, this doesn't represent damage to the uS itself.

Towelie,

A MAP sensor that is a constant 18-20 kPa is usually a sign that it is connected backwards. We used to see this a lot in the old V2.2 (and V1.01) boards people built themselves, because it was easy to get them the 'wrong side up' on the board. See #12 here: http://www.megamanual.com/v22manual/mwire.htm#trouble

So you might want to check your wiring.

Lance.

I am reading this and thinking it may be time to jump in - I have not powered up my microsquirt v3 as I am struggling with some connections and don't want to kill it!
my Map is a bosch unit from a freelander, same one is used by Honda, rover, citroen and ford, my problem is that the map connections are labelled 3-2-1, not the expected A-B-C and despite 2 days of searching I have not been able to find a confident answer to what the pin outs actually are! Only one bit of luck has perhaps helped - one of the OEM equivalents is the facet 103016, the part list also shows a pin out which is:
3 = O (but the "0" looks more like a square)
2 = -
1 = 5v
So I am thinking I need to connect as follows:
3 = signal or MAP to pin 24,
2 = ground to pin 20
1 = 5Vref pin 28
If I am wrong - will I kill the squirt or the sensor?
thanks
