Coolant temp sensor?

Post by dlenardu »

I have a 35 hp vtwin liquid cooled briggs motor that I am microsquirting. It has a coolant sensor on it, that is not hooked up to anything. I'm guessing that it might have been used in another application to shut the motor off if it got too hot. However it is not wired up to anything on the application that I am using. This sensor is a thermosensor (it is not actually in the coolant, it presses up to the coolant passage). Can I use this sensor as my coolant temp sensor or would it be better for me to drill and tap the manifold for the GM sensor?

Probably; it wouldn't hurt to try it as long as it's a thermistor type sensor and not a switch.

Thanks Matt,

Yeah as far as I know it is a sensor, at least that is what is says on the parts breakdown. I'm going to call them just to make sure. I'll also be calling you sometime soon to get the microsquirt ordered and I'm sure I'll have some more questions.

Hello!

Did you get the 35 hp vtwin liquid cooled briggs motor to work with microsquirting?
Very interesting in this because I working on a project like this with a air coold Briggs & Stratton Vanguard 35hp engine.

Nice you have them up and running!
I going to use them on hovercrafts and I need better response on the engine that I have today.
May I ask what you use them to?
What do you feel was the biggest difference between a regular engine and the engine whit MicroSquirt?

What part you use for the conversion?
I am really interested to get in touch with you about this conversion you have done.
