Crank signal and ignition options

hi there !!

im looking to get an rpm signal from the crank instead of the opto+ from the coils and trying to get spark control . i have a microsquirt V3.83.

heres my crank signal :

i dont have a cam sensor only 2 vr sensor for the crank, one on each end of the crank with a 180 deg apart from each other .

my questions are : In tunerstudio in the dual/mult spark tab , do i have to put "dual tach inputs" ? and the offset for output#2 to 180deg?
What about the trigger wheel tooth with that crank pattern since its only 1 big scallop on each end of the crank? Skip pulse?

im not sure what i should put in tunerstudio ignition settings....i ve been reading the manual but i just dont get this part.

also i ve read somewhere that with my version (V3.83) you cannot connect the negative side of a wasted spark coil to IGN1 or IGN2, only older version do that , is that true? Cause that was what i was planning to do and i dont want to burn anything, anyone has info on this?

thanks

Yes, that's dual tach inputs.

The plastic case MicroSquirts can't trigger a coil directly; the older metal cased ones did have coil drivers. This is not dependent on what firmware version you are running.

thanks for the reply,

i ll try that tonight .....

i have the plastic case one so no direct coil driving for me , can i use COP from recent year sportbike to work as wasted spark( i think they have logic driver built-in dont they)?

Or i was thinking maybe of using vr1 for crank signal and vr2 to act as a cam signal for sequential spark? but my guess its that my signal resolution is too low for that.

btw i bought your book and love it , so much interesting stuff in it :)

Not aware of any logic level coils used on sport bikes, but they might exist.

You'd only have sequential spark on B&G code with a MicroSquirt if this is a V-twin.

Ok i think the bosch 211 would be the easiest option for me then!

I got the bike running today with rpm signal from vr1 and vr2 as dual tach inputs with my stock TCI box for spark.

But to get the rpm right i had to set for 2 cylinders instead of 4 ?? and also for the bike to idle i had to set to 2 simultaneous squirts?

When i switch to getting rpm from opto+ via negative side of coil , i had the same issues , setting cylinder to 2 instead of 4 and for idling i used 2 simultaneous squirts.

My question are :

Does it matter as long as the bike runs?

From which rpm input can i get a better steady rpm signal (negative side of coil or vr1,vr2) ? Since my coils are controlled by my stock TCI box i was wondering if it might impact the trueness of the actual rpm.

Would it still be possible to get an acceptable spark control with my crank vr signal posted above or do i should just forget about that idea cause signal aint good enough?

I am asking those question cause im looking to get the bike to run smoothly and if possible with spark control.I am just looking for other options that could work great for me.

Thanks
