lost RPM signal

anyone had this problem? Custom EFI on a Yamaha Vmax been working fine for about six months just doing fine tuning on the fuel map and making little adjustments. Was starting the bike and the battery got low so put a battery charger on set at 40 amps that I have done before but this time as soon as I started cranking it would not start and I noticed that there was no rpm showing in tuner studio. started trouble shooting checking wire and what not. I have another microsquirt controller that I will be using for another set that I am working on so I thought I would try it and sure enough the bike started right up.
So now I don't know if there is anything I can try to do to fix it other than try to reload the boot file or send it in for repairs.

What sort of sensor is it using for RPM input?

I am using the output from the ignition module that is used for the tach and have had no trouble until now.

I should also ad that the same output drives the tach and seems to be working normally. after the priming pulse the bike will run for about 1 or 2 seconds and the tach will shoe rpm.

How is the output wired to the MicroSquirt?

Is the stock ignition module functioning properly?

I'm currently out of town working.when i get back i wii look into the wiring and get back to you on the outputs that i am using. The bike has an aftermarket dyna 3000 ignition. Also a new development is that before I left I updated the fuel table and was warming up the bike for a ride and after idling for about five minutes it just quit so now i have the same problem with the other ecu. I did try reloading the firmware but still have the same problem.

I had a chance to check the wiring and currently the same signal from the ignition module that drives the tach is connected to opto+ and opto- is connected to 12v. Originally I was going to use the coil negative but changed it to not get a signal disruption from using an air shifter I think they use the same type of signal, and they both seemed to initially work fine. I am wondering if this type of connection may have caused some stress on a electrical component in the ecu?

interesting new development! I just got the spare microsquirt module and doing some trouble shooting it seems that there is not a good signal in the wiring. will go through the wiring and see if there is a problem there.

Problem solved. Thought I would post the solution so many post always end with unfinished problems and it makes it difficult to find answers. After talking with tech at DIYautotune the resistor at R20 on the circuit board had shorted out and the fix is to solder a 1/2 watt resistor (case closed) literally.
