Older Microsquirt vs. new v3.0

Hello,
I have been offered the chance to purchase a Microsquirt with a pigtail that is brand new in a box for $200. It is from 2008. I don't know the version. Is this something that can be upgraded to current standards? Or should I just buy a new one? I am planning to use it 4 cylinder motorcycle, for both ignition and bank fired injection. As I understand it, the hardware is not upgradable, but the programming is. I understand that there is now a "max 9926 based circuit" and/or a "Max232 VR conditioner input" and that the "coil drivers were removed" but have no idea yet what this all means to/for me.

My apologies, I am just starting to get wet behind the ears on all of this....
Any information is appreciated.

The earlier cased Microsquirt had two driver circuits within, but most people recommended not selecting those to keep noise and electrical interference from creating issues (not sure you are describing that this unit has had its drivers removed?).
I have a couple of those units (V2 version) I am using successfully with a twin cylinder motorbike engine, working very well (sequential ignition and fuel control available etc). The MS2 Extra code actually provides a number of operational features that allow you to do pretty much everything you could want.
If it is brand new and hasn't been tampered with then it sounds like a good deal, would be doable for your project (without knowing other details)

I look forward to following your project details (hope you post about it - the forums can be a bit quiet at times, especially over here)
