Re: Microquirt with Coil on Plug
It is possible to use the MS2/Extra code to get three spark outputs (you'd use WLED with a pull up for the third) but not six.agent4573 wrote:I'm new to this and apologize if this is answered in the manual, as I'm at work and the site to get the manual is blocked. I'm building a dune buggy with a Nissan "VG" V6 in it. It uses "direct fire" or coil on plug type ignition and I was wondering what it would take to make the microsquirt work with it. The stock system has a "Power Transistor Unit" which acts as 6 seperate relays to turn low power inputs into high current circuits for the coils to charge off of. It takes 6 inputs, one for each coil. From all the reading I've seen, the MS can only do 2 banks of firing, so even if I combined cylinders I would be one bank short to turn it into a wasted spark type ignition. Can I add the sequencer and get away with 6 cylinders all direct firing, and if I do, can I do away with the PTU or should I still use it in conjunction with the sequencer?
The Sequencer hasn't been released, but it was its own ECU and not an add on to the MicroSquirt. Its nearest available cousin is the MS3-Pro, which uses the same case and some circuits developed for the Sequencer, but uses a single large processor instead of two smaller ones.

EDIT* My other option I was considering was geting a ford EDI unit to use with the Micro, but I would like to reuse as many parts as possible and going that route would mean a completely different ignition system entirely.
