Wiring up intercooler pump

Post by anonymous.shyster »

Hi,

I'm wondering if I can have the MicroSquirt control when the water-to-air intercooler pump and fan operate. I don't see much need in having the pump circulating water when I am at idle, or cruising with no boost. Can the MicroSquirt control (via TPS/Alpha-N, hopefully as I don't intend on running a MAP sensor if I can get away without it [only using uS for spark, not fuel injection]) when the pump and fan come on and go off?

I was thinking of something along the lines of, if I'm at > 1/3 throttle, the pump and fan are on and stay on for at least a minute. Perhaps this would require a latching relay? How would I go about this?

You can use the spare output settings to trigger relays from the ALED and WLED outputs.

Does anyone know where I might find a timer (latching) relay? I've tried Jaycar, RS and Farnell but haven't found what I'm after, closest match was one on eBay.

Try an internet search for "Releco" or "Omron", both have what your looking for - would just need to narrow to a distributor in your location.
However, if you are seeking to keep a relay on for a minute as you've indicated, perhaps you're better with a programable timer relay ( for example, Omrom "H3YN-2" ) which can be set for anything from parts of a second to 10 minutes max with dip switches for either "time on" or "time off" etc.)

How do I go about setting the paramets to use the ALED and WLED options? I'm using Megatunix to set things up and I don't understand the options or how I would go about telling it to send a signal when the TPS reading is above half throttle.

Note: I have a latching relay which is set to one minute. So once the latching relay receives a signal, the intercooler pump should pump for one minute from when it receives the last signal.

This link covers spare output settings, although you don't need the hardware mods it describes.
