Alpha-N/TPS airconditioner cut-off/water injection

Hi,

Just wondering if the Alpha-N can be used to switch off the airconditioner after say, 1/2 throttle is applied and do likewise by turning on the water injection pump after a certain throttle position?

Another thing I would like to do is put a boost controller in (at some point). What I'd like to do is connect it to the TPS, so that the boost controller is turned up from say 7 psi to 14 psi past a certain threshold, i.e 4/5 to full throttle. Is this possible too?

For anyone wondering, I'm going to be using Alpha-N only to begin with. I will have an O2 sensor wired in too, but that's only for data logging. Alpha-N will control the ignition timing, the fuelling will be taken care of by a set of 40 mm Mikuni carburettors. Manifold pressure will probably come later if this isn't optimal, but I should get by with Alpha-N only.

Alpha-N is not commonly used with turbo applications (IIRC) because the response at a given throttle position is dependent both on the rpms and what the previous throttle position was. Speed-density is far more common, and just as easy to tune.

To answer your other questions - yes, TPS can be used as an argument with the programmable outputs to drive relays and turn things on and off.

Yes, and adding boost in there can confuse things too. Not something I'd recommend on a fuel injected setup, unless you used TPS aswell as manifold pressure. However, with carbs, it shouldn't matter. Do you have a link to somewhere that tells me how this switching is done?

I was going to point you at the MicroSquirt manual, but I can't find the appropriate info ...

Here's the spare outputs from the MS2 section of the MegaManual - http://www.megamanual.com/ms2/spare.htm.

I'm actually more familiar with the extra code, but it isn't that different at this stage...

I know I should read the manual, but I've looked around a lot and haven't come up with a definitive answer as to what the 'extra' is. Is it an experimental firmware that offers additional features? That's what it seems to indicate. Is there an explanation somewhere that I've overlooked?

It's hardly 'experimental' - the main developers on the MS2/Extra code are the people who did the MS3 code (no extra)! 8)

There are a lot of features to the MS2/Extra code, most specifically increased spark (6) and injection (4) channels, plus various inputs and outputs. Unfortunately, with the cased MicroSquirt you can't access a lot of it, but you may still find it useful. Or you may prefer to stay with the B&G code - probably more uS out there running stock code than Extra, it's in continuous development and update as well, and they've just released a new version. It's all up to you.

Hmm, I'm just wondering what extra it offers those with the MicroSquirt. So, it's just a software, not a hardware addition?
