first uS set up on older bike, questions.

Post by naturalextraction »

I was told to use the forum for any questions and that it may be more efficient to do so.?
Quick background, I'm fairly new to setting up EFI and new to setting it up on an older motorcycle. I'm running it on a 81 Yamaha with CDI box. It is turbo charged and the injector is before the turbo. It has stepper motors that are driven by an Arduino processor. I've been running this system on a home machined "carb" metering device. Already set up with wide band O2.

I have printed out the "module hardware connections pinout" and have used that to wire my header.

I bought the micro squirt replacement harness for the ease of using the wires from it sense there was not male connector sold for it. (BTW, DIYautotune was out of the uS EMS at the time so I bought the module 2.2 )

I bought the additional "boost control mod kit".

I have a series of questions related to setting up the wiring up the module using a header on J2 primarily.

1. I want to use the ignition already established. I'm assuming it's ok to not use 44,46,48, and 50?
2. Can I tap into the two pickups at the crank wheel already there? which is only a two trigger wheel for the igniter/cdi box. Or will this put an irregular load creating a disturbance for the CDI? Is that signal to go to the VR tach signal? confused on what port that signal is to go to.
3. Also I'm not sure where the three wires from the 1/8 jack for the lap top communications port go exactly. Orange is "TAT", Green is Fidle, and red power. That doesn't seem like that should be it. What about # 4, 6,10 and 12? Shouldn't I be using a regular serial port connector with USB?
4. Can I use the MAP in #3 for MAF sensor input? Im not using a MAP sensor.
5. What is the difference for Serial gnd and sensor gnd? I read somewhere they have to be grounded separately and where is the best on a motorcycle, if that's a valid question?
6. Do I need to have #8 available at port? Says rarely used.

The imidiate goal is to get the base system running on the basics of this system first. My only sensors are: TPS, MAF, MAT,O2, Signal from crank two point trigger (cdi pickup). What other sensors or inputs Must be used? VR tack signal? VR tack no. 2?
Thanks in advance.
