Bizarre request. How can I induce popping on the over-run

Hi Guys,

I know this is a weird one, seeing as everyone's thread I have read wants to stop this happening, but I am the opposite.

My car is a 1973 Mk1 Escort Mexico, which was running twin 40's. As per the era & the carbs, popping was the norm & added character. Now I am running ITB's from a GSXR6, I cannot induce popping at all. I know it is sad, but I do miss the odd pop, lol

I am running Microsquirt on the 288900 firmware, tuning with tunerstudio pro. I have tried dialling out the decel cut, but from what I read this only operates in Alpha N whilst the throttle is closing, not after it has shut. I have tried leaning off my base line AFR's but to no avail. Could adjusting the base line timing have any affect?

I need my cars character back, but with the 100% improvement going to Microsquirt has given me

Cheers guys, weird request I know, but I am trying to keep things old school & period. The ITB's certainly keep the full throttle noise of the 40's.

Popping on overrun is normally an artifact of lean running.

Hi,

Yeah, weird thing is I have seen over 20 on the AFR gauge, but with no pop to be heard. How high do you have to go :(

Just wondered if there was another setting I had missed.

Cheers, Shane

I've often heard of overrun backfires from being too rich on overrun - you could try adding more fuel to the high RPM / low throttle areas of the VE table.
