MicroSquirt.com read only forum (Jan.15,2018)

Hi All,

I am new to Mircosquirt, as i am about to purchase a unit to fit on an Aprilia 60 deg odd fire V-twin motorbike engine in a custom Notron Featherbed frame etc.

Basically i believe that it runs a direct fire CDI Coil system ( need to confirm ), sequential injections etc on an odd fire timing as it is a 60 deg V engine.

Is there any way of running CDI Coils on Microsquirt or do i need to buy the old school inductive coils and retro fit them to make it run?

Any advice will be very welcome

It fired my CDI coils. But the MicroSquirt is TCI style. One uses low impedance coils (CDI if i'm not mistaken), the other high impedance. So this is not really mixable. If your CDI ignition came with an amplifyer box, you could try to leave that in place and fire it from the MicroSquirt on low level. If you can figure out how to wire it...

The Microsquirt has an output for inductive coils. Some coils work quite well with either a CDI or inductive controller; MSD Blaster SS coils come to mind. Other CDI coils, especially some bike designs, are too specialized. For example, I had a Honda CX500 where there was only one wire connection on the coil, for the positive voltage from the CDI box. The negative lead wasn't a terminal but instead grounded straight to the frame. A coil like that would take a redesigned, isolated mount to have any chance of working with a MicroSquirt.
