engine speed capture

Post by pommie02 »

i am playing with a idea
i work with trucks that rely on an engine speed signal from the alternator, i am not sure how its done though !
is it possible, if i knew my alternator speed... to use this as a ignition input instead of the negative side of my coil.
the reason for my thinking is because i have blown up one board already using the opto cicruit to the negative side of my bikes coil using a 24v zener diode

I was just trolling some old posts and I saw this...I remembered a French guy used alternator pulse on his XT600( I had one too, with a blown CDI )...googled it and found this

http://www.transmic.net/gbindex.htm Look under CDI>Analog in the left sidebar. I know it's late and your still using the coil on your Yam, but it might be useful for somebody else.

Mike
