I've considered this. I have obtained an '01 zl600 EFI (batteryless) that has driveability issues. I believe my trouble is in the hard parts though, I've found the TPS to be bad, FPR was sticking and I think the reed valves may be bleeding off crankcase pressure. Once I get it fundamentally sound, I was thinking microsquirt would be a fun project. I've procured a service manual which has values for the sensors, so I don't think it would be too difficult, just require patience. If I'm understanding it all correctly, I think the ms may require a small battery to provide a starting voltage, or maybe just to get it started before the stator voltage comes up, but I think this could be accomplished with a small 12v housed in with the ecu.

I imagine the fuel pump circuit could be tapped to provide ms power, but I think the fuel injector circuit was putting out ~80vdc at starting RPM (rope start), and the lighting circuit was regulated A/C voltage. I'd have to dig through the manual to verify all that though. IIRC, the ecu was controlling fuel pump voltage. The only circuit from the stator that passes through the regulator was the lighting. May need to use a second regulator (in place of factory ecu) to control fuel pump voltage.

The really cool thing about it is that it's a great summer project. Looks like a fun challenge. All depends on approval from the "treasury dept"

Anyone else have other thoughts?
