in a bid to try and sort out my problems i have been advised to use a noise filter for my power supply.
is there a size of filter i need and where should it be fitted.
also shielded wiring...do i need it for my negative coil supply on a bike cdi ignition system

Hmmm, cdi? I wonder if its worth trying a 75V zener instead of the 24V zener you are running. Or 2 x 75V zeners in series even. A bad tach signal could easily be the source of your issues. The 24V zener was what got your bike half running in the first place.
