uS no connection

Post by PrecisionDyno »

I can't get it to connect to my laptop

I spent 6 hours on the forum, going through everyone elses posts about their connection issues and I am at a standstill.

I can get the hyperterminal to echo

I have ohm checked and continuity checked the harness.

I have doulble checked all the pinouts to make sure they were in the right place in the harness

I have taken apart the rs232 connector at both ends and made sure it was solder properly and that the wires went to the proper pins, and followed through the little stereo connector properly to those wires in the harness.

I have downloaded the latest bootloader and it will not flash in the latest (or any other) code to the unit, it will not connect to it. I have tried all the port and speed settings possible.

the port checker finds it on com3 at baud 9600/115200 "s"

I have no 5v reference signal on the vref wire.

I am only trying the unit right now on my desk with a 12v battery applying power and ground to it. and my laptop is plugged into the wall.

I have run through every test that has been posted here by others on the forum and come up with no connection on the downloader or in megatune at all.

This is the error message I get in the downloader when trying to load the latest code:

The download messages indicate it is trying to connect on com3 at 9600 baud. The microsquirt communicates at 115200 baud. Try setting the communication rate to 115200 in the File/settings menu.

If you are using a USB to serial adapter cable, you may need to set the verbosity to a high number to prevent overruns. I have to use verbosity = 4 with my adapter.

If you don't have 5V ref, you probably dont have the 5V which is used to power all the IC's on the unit. Sounds like either the 5V regulator is bad or the poly fuse is blown. You need to get this problem corrected ,because without 5V the unit is basicly dead.

Thanks for the reply, i assumed that i was at a point where something needed fixed, since it had no 5v ref.

btw I am not using a usb adaptor, and I have tried all the different baud rate settings. thought i stated that above but maybe not.

anyone heard from Bruce lately? i sent him some pms about this but have got no reply

If the VREF isn't giving voltage but is not connected to anything that can pull it down, it probably has internal damage. Right now we do not have replacement parts in stock, but you might want to try contacting Peter Florance at peter@firstfives.org.

I sent you a PM was back in Aug on this....

Anyway, if memory serves me, you received a very early pre-beta unit. These units worked fine, I have people who have been running them for 2 years.

From the sounds of it there is a issue with the board - email me at bbowling@earthlink.net and I will send you a V1 board to swap out.
