Main Relay Clicking On + Off ????

Thank you for your help in advance.

I'm running a Microsquirt on a 4 cylinder 4 stroke motorcycle engine. I am also using a relay board.
I had finished up all of the wiring, triple checked it, and I have a problem.

When I apply power to the switched 12v source wire, the main relay clicks on for approximately a second and then clicks off. When I disconnect the harness wiring between the Relay Board and the Mircosquirt, the relay stays energized.

Any ideas? Any suggestions for diagnosing the problem?

Thanks again.

What's the "main relay"? What's driving it?

The fuel pump relay is supposed to click on for about one second when Microsquirt is initially powered up. This is to pressurize the fuel line/rail for the priming pulse. After that, it switches off until Microsquirt detects cranking.

I was mistaken. It was the fuel pump relay that was clicking on and off. I no longer have the problem of the relay clicking on and off, but I can't seem to be able to communicate with the microsquirt.

When using the port checker program I get the following message

COM1 Opened
9600 baud
No connection made.
115200 baud
No connection made.
1 valid port found.

Hit return when done....

I have also tried the communication testing section of Megatune with the same results.

I am using a serial com port on my laptop. I have checked the port on the laptop and it is fine.

I have checked the power supply and grounds for the Microsquirt and they are fine.

I am using the 2.886 code and have set the "interWriteDelay = 5"

I have set Megatune as "2" which represents Microsquirt.

I have read and reread the Megasquirt Connection Troubleshooting Guide and performed all of the tests and everything is correct except I still can't communication with Mircrosquirt.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks again everyone for the help. I'm looking forward to completing this project.

Check your serial cable to make sure it's OK.

Sure enough I had a bad serial cable. I bought the cable with the Microsquirt, but as you find sometimes, NEW does not mean GOOD. ;-)

I made a cable myself and now I can get responses from Hyperterminal and Miniterm (through Megatune), but I still can't get a connection through the communications screen in Megatune. "No response" is what happens when I test the connection.

In Megatune under "General" I have set the number to "2" representing Mircosquirt so at this point I am stumped.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks again for all of the help.

Make sure MegaTune is configured for the specific firmware you have in the Microsquirt.

Well, I'm still not able to communicate with the Microsquirt through Megatune.

I have the latest version of MS loaded into Megatune which is 2.886. I have rechecked all of my wiring, tested my new serial cable, and verified I have all the software loaded and configured correctly.

So tonight I decided to try to upload 2.886 into Microsquirt in case for some weird reason it did not have the correct code loaded on it when I bought it. I followed the manual to the letter and after watching a lot of code flash by on the downloader program the follow error was at the end of the process.

I would appreciate any help you can give me or a direction to head.

Thanks in advance everyone.

You mentioned you could get a response in MiniTerm. Can you post a screen shot of that?

Matt,

Thank you for your help.

Below is the miniterm screen shot and also the communications settings screenshot.

Any suggestions?

Were you typing "test" in or did that appear on its own?
